How did you get into SUP racing?
I rented a board in June 2014 and decided to buy a board after my first try. Found a cheap deal on a used race board through Craigslist. The owner told me about the Lake Mary Jane SUP race coming up in November, so I decided to give it a shot. I remember very distinctly watching the elite racers and how incredible they were as athletes. I pretty much decided then and there that's what I wanted to pursue.
SUP Racing Goals:
My personal goal is to become a dominant competitor. I'm still young enough to devote years into the sport and still be at a peak age to compete at the highest levels. I have no prior water sport experience, cardio sport background and can't even swim efficiently... so every learning curve so far has been very steep. That being said, the challenge of the whole experience and overcoming them is part of that same goal!
With my work schedule I have the ability to be on the water 7 days a week and try to take advantage of that. Time constraints force multiple sprint sets and more freedom will allow for half marathon paddles. I mix up the boards I use to change the paddle stroke pace, speed and feel on the water. Breaking up the monotony with a little variety has been great in limiting mental fatigue.
I work in a gym, so working out is very convenient. I usually have an hour to lift 3 or 4 times a week. I keep the motions compound in nature to work the entire skeletal system through the midline of the core. Usually have lower body and upper body exercises separated by day's, standard sets ranging from 6-12 reps and 2-4 sets of usually conventional exercises. If you check my instagram you'd think I only do circus tricks but those really are only for fun and a very short amount of time!
I'm half Thai and half Caucasian. My mother is from Thailand and my father is a native Floridian.
